The Business Advisor, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), provides confidential business counseling, training support, and administrative assistance to the Senior Consultant and Director of the SBDC and Apex Accelerator. This role supports business startup, growth, and sustainability through advising and training activities. The Business Advisor also collaborates with the Center Director on specialized, metric-aligned initiatives and training programs. Responsibilities include administrative duties related to client narratives, communications, event coordination, and other project-related activities.
Key Responsibilities Small Business Advising & Client Support- Provide one-on‑one advising to startup and existing small businesses.
- Advise clients with basic business startup requirements, legal entities, licensing, taxes, marketing, management, basic financial practices, and compliance.
- Support the development and review of business plans, cash flow projections, operational strategies, and financial projections.
- Provide market research reports using SBDC and the University library tools.
- Maintain accurate client documentation in the SBDC client management system.
- Assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of SBDC training programs, including coordination event space, pre‑event reminders, and post‑event follow‑up surveys.
- Create graphics to advertise programs on UAH website, social media, and newsletters.
- Develop or adapt training materials using Canva as assigned.
- Present or co‑present workshops and seminars. In‑person and virtual formats.
- Complete required reports, data entry, and program documentation in compliance with SBDC, SBA, state, and host institution requirements.
- Assist with scheduling, client intake, and follow‑up communications.
- Provide newsletter support as needed.
- Support reporting, performance metrics, and documentation for funded programs.
- Assist with special initiatives, pilot programs, or grant‑supported activities.
- Participate in meetings and required professional development training.
- Represent the SBDC at community, economic development, and partner events.
- Promote SBDC services to potential clients and partners.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Economics, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in small business, consulting, or related roles.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, and client management systems.
- Experience providing business advising or coaching.
- Experience assisting with training or workshops.
- Familiarity with economic development or SBDC programs.
- Experience serving business populations across a variety of industries and backgrounds.
- US citizenship is required.
