The Accompanist will work with the Choral Director to provide skilled and sensitive musical support to vocalists, instrumentalists, or ensembles.
This involves playing the piano part accurately and artistically, collaborating with performers to shape musical interpretations, and attending rehearsals, performances, auditions, and lessons. This role is essential in creating a rich and engaging musical experience. This is a part‑time position.
Reporting AuthorityHumanities Department Chair/Choral Director
Responsibilities- Accompany vocalists, instrumentalists, or ensembles in rehearsals, performances, auditions, and lessons, as required.
- Sight‑read accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and rehearse accompaniments, demonstrating sensitivity to the musical style and interpretation of the soloist/ensemble.
- Collaborate effectively with performers, offering musical suggestions and adjustments as needed.
- Maintain a professional and positive demeanor during rehearsals and performances.
- Transpose music as needed.
- Maintain and care for the piano(s) used for accompanying.
- Attend rehearsals and performances as scheduled.
- Provide coaching to vocalists/instrumentalists on musical interpretation and performance practice.
- Assume other responsibilities as needed or directed by the Director of Library Services, Instructional Services Administration, and/or President.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with musicians of varying levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and needs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano performance and accompanying.
- Excellent sight‑reading skills.
- Strong understanding of music theory and performance practice.
- Experience accompanying various genres of music.
Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding. Frequent walking, standing, or sitting may be required. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
SalaryBishop State CC Local Salary Schedule – $24/hr.
