Why Intern with WKRG-TV / in Mobile, AL?
Learn by observing and working with WKRG’s Digital Content Team. Gain experience in writing, search engine optimization, live streaming, and visual communication, including graphic design for articles. The internship offers a unique chance to immerse yourself in the Gulf Coast environment while building a strong portfolio.
Responsibilities- Observe and assist the Digital Content Team in daily production activities.
- Write news articles and broadcast scripts using AP style guidelines.
- Apply search engine optimization best practices to boost article reach.
- Create and design graphics for use on
- Live‑stream events and capture video content for the station.
- Collaborate with team members to meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing assignments.
- High selectivity: only a limited number of positions available.
- Internship is in‑person at WKRG’s broadcast and digital studios in Mobile, Alabama.
- Position is supervised; the station supervisor will monitor attendance and performance.
- Unpaid internship.
- Students must earn academic credit for the internship; credit and weekly availability are determined by the college/university advisor.
- Interns are responsible for their own transportation.
- Preferred background: journalism, social media, communication arts, digital marketing, or related fields.
- Core prerequisites: basic AP style writing, ability to meet deadlines, general familiarity with video basics; optional experience in video editing (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) and video capture.
- Broaden understanding of writing for a news website and improve journalism skills.
- Develop professional work samples for a portfolio.
- Build contacts in the media industry for future mentorship and career opportunities.
- Enhance craft and presentation skills applicable to college coursework.
