Upper School Spanish Teacher (Grades 9–12) UMS-Wright Preparatory School | Mobile, Alabama Position Overview

UMS-Wright Preparatory School seeks a dynamic, engaging, and student-centered Upper School Spanish Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for world language instruction, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to inspire students to develop proficiency in Spanish while gaining a deeper appreciation for cultures and global perspectives.

Upper School faculty members play an integral role in supporting UMS-Wright's mission to educate students to their highest potential in mind, body, and spirit while developing character of the highest possible order.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Upper School Spanish courses in grades 9–12, which may include:
  • Spanish I
  • Spanish II
  • Spanish III
  • Spanish IV and Honors-Level Courses
  • Advanced Spanish coursework as assigned
  • Develop and implement engaging, rigorous lesson plans that promote language acquisition in reading, writing, speaking, and listening
  • Foster an immersive and communicative classroom environment that encourages active language use
  • Integrate cultural studies, authentic resources, and global perspectives into instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and guide instruction
  • Incorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance language learning
  • Maintain timely communication with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, interdisciplinary initiatives, and departmental goals
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school community through advising student organizations, sponsoring clubs, coaching, or other extracurricular involvement
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, World Languages, Education, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Teaching experience at the secondary level preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced-level proficiency in Spanish Strong understanding of language acquisition and effective instructional practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
