Science Teacher – .4 FTE / Leave Replacement
Job Summary: Educate students by planning, developing, and delivering a course of study according to student learning objectives, district/building curriculum guidelines, and student assessment data.
Essential Functions- Develop and implement effective lesson plans and instructional materials that allow students to utilize and practice higher‑level thinking skills.
- Provide large and small group and individualized instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in learning activities and instruct and monitor students in the use of such.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing appropriate feedback on work using methods such as assigning and grading class work, homework, tests and assignments.
- Continually assess student progress and implement effective lessons to meet individual student learning needs as determined by assessment data.
- Provide opportunities for students to self‑reflect and track progress toward learning goals.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
- Provide a safe, positive, and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with school and district policies.
- Work as an effective member of the grade level/course team to evaluate and improve student learning.
- Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner.
- Self‑reflect and evaluate instructional effectiveness to identify strengths and adjust to reach maximum effectiveness.
- Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law, or ability to obtain said certificate. Must be a No Child Left Behind highly qualified teacher in subject.
- Demonstrates ability to challenge students academically and promote highest level of learning.
- Demonstrates comprehensive content knowledge related to state standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including student self‑assessment, formative assessment, portfolios, and anecdotal records.
- Demonstrates ability to make data‑driven instructional decisions.
- Builds a positive learning environment, modeling respect and honoring dignity of all students, staff, and parents.
- Applies effective classroom management procedures for large and small groups and individuals.
- Develops rapport with students.
- Communicates effectively with a variety of audiences, including communicating student progress.
- Works collaboratively with a team, contributing positively.
- Commits to ongoing professional learning and develops professionally in areas of school and district focus.
- Applies current technology with a multimedia approach to instruction and management.
- Aware of Common Core state standards and state graduation requirements.
- Interest, willingness, and background to fulfill extra and/or co‑curricular positions.
- Works cooperatively within a comprehensive student activities program.
- Possesses multiple endorsements.
- Willing to serve as a student advisor.
- Determines and designs interventions using a multi‑tiered approach.
- Understanding of Title I and underserved students.
- Experience with PBIS.
- Willingness to collaborate with members of a professional team.
- Develops and maintains positive rapport and relationships with students and families.
- Knowledge of complex trauma.
- Understanding of state evaluation process.
- Understanding of Common Core State Standards and District adopted Curriculum.
