Valid AL Department of Education Teacher's Certificate, Bachelor's Degree or higher, endorsed in Special Education, multiple certifications preferred, must meet the ESSA (NCLB) Highly Qualified Criteria if applicable, or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

- Valid Alabama teaching certificate or letter of completion from the university stating the application for certification has been submitted to the State Department of Education
- Official transcript from the university with degree posted.
