The primary responsibility of the laboratory assistant as directed by the instructor is to facilitate student learning in the laboratory setting. The Welding Laboratory Assistant will work under the direction of one or more instructors.
Reporting AuthorityDivision Chairperson
Responsibilities- Provide individualized student assistance during laboratory activities, including answering questions, demonstrating proper procedures and techniques, and identifying and explaining errors under the direction of the instructor.
- Conduct laboratory demonstrations for student groups or individuals as assigned by the instructor.
- Oversee student live‑work activities as assigned by the instructor.
- Set up demonstrations and troubleshoot situations as assigned by the instructor.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine housekeeping chores as assigned by the instructor.
- Duplicate and distribute handouts and instructional materials as assigned by the instructor.
- Maintain student work schedules and document student work activities and performance as assigned by the instructor or Division Chairperson.
- Maintain and demonstrate acceptable safety and sanitation standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean, Division Chair, or President.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED from an accredited program.
- Welding Short Term Certificate (STC).
- Three years of documented full‑time experience as a welder.
- Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding. Frequent walking, standing, or sitting may be required. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
