Data Scientist
Tenure‑track position (Assistant/Associate Professor) within the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine. The role focuses on research in mechanisms controlling blood‑brain barrier integrity, neural information processing, neuroinflammation, proteopathic mechanisms of neural degeneration, genetic causes of neurodegeneration, and impaired neuromuscular function.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead research that complements the Kelly Butler Center for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and the Gulf Coast Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
- Collaborate with basic and clinical science colleagues to advance multidisciplinary projects.
- Secure extramural research funding and demonstrate a record of successful grant acquisition appropriate for academic rank.
- Teach courses in the medical and graduate schools, contributing to graduate and clinical education.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the listed scientific areas.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Evidence of a strong record of securing extramural grants.
