The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a full‑time (9‑month), non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Instruction in Meteorology, starting August 15, 2026. We seek a broadly trained meteorologist/atmospheric scientist to teach Introduction to Meteorology and its lab, General Meteorology and its lab, and other required courses as needed, and to assist with the capstone sequence in Synoptic Meteorology.
Highly desirable, but not essential, are skills to teach Python programming and Radar Meteorology. Additional duties include academic advising of undergraduate students and service to the department and college through committees and other activities.
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in the classroom, coursework in synoptic/mesoscale meteorology, weather analysis and forecasting, and potential to recruit undergraduate meteorology majors and contribute to the growth of the department, college, and university. Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on Department need. The successful candidate must be able to work legally in the United States.
