The Science teacher works closely with the Instructional Leadership Team, teachers, and administrators to strategically plan and successfully implement a comprehensive improvement plan to increase student achievement. The Science teacher takes a hands‑on approach to improving instruction and effectiveness by working at various levels (classroom and school wide) in defined areas of expertise. This includes teaching various science courses (chemistry, physics, etc.),
modeling lessons in classrooms, and helping teacher groups plan instruction. The science teacher is a full‑time position.
The Science teacher reports to the Principal.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach courses within area of expertise that aligns with Alabama Advanced Standards.
- Implement Honors and AP Level curriculum, instruction, and assessment; collaborate with principal, instructional leadership team, and teachers to review and revise as necessary.
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that cover the curriculum and adhere to educational standards.
- Deliver lectures on chemistry topics such as chemical compounds, atomic structure, chemical reactions, and the periodic table.
- Conduct laboratory experiments and supervise students during lab work, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Assess student performance through tests, quizzes, and observational methods.
- Provide feedback to students and parents on student progress and performance.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student academic progress and attendance.
- Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and continued education programs.
- Modify teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Provide guidance to students on academic and career pathways.
- Order lab supplies and ensure proper usage and storage.
- In collaboration with the leadership team, identify academic priorities, and set measurable goals to achieve priorities and monitor progress towards goals.
- Work with Instructional Team to refine and develop assessments (quarterly, mid‑year, and end‑of‑year) for each grade level.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher.
- Professional Alabama Teacher Certificate.
- A deep understanding of content specific and general pedagogy, Advanced Placement curriculum, Alabama Advanced Standards, and current trends and best practices in curriculum design and instruction within area of expertise.
