Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We actively seek a Senior Rail Economic Consultant to join our Rail Economic Development team, which reports in the Transportation Practice through the Dallas Office. Individual to be based near a Moffatt & Nichol office in the United States.

As part of the Rail Economic Development Team this position will identify and pursue prospects with rail-dependent projects in the economic development/industrial development arena, and seek to secure engineering, planning, infrastructure consulting and engineering design work for Moffatt & Nichol in the process. Most projects will be freight-oriented in industrial development and rail intermodal arenas.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage relationship networks with local, regional and state-wide economic development organizations; with site selection professionals, and with the leadership level of businesses looking to locate new, rail-dependent facilities.
  • Work closely with engineers in the conceptualization and layout of physical infrastructure assets.
  • Comfortable understanding freight, logistics and supply chain data to inform clients about the relative merits of different logistics applications to meet their needs.
  • Speaks the language of logistics/supply chain and/or rail transportation/operations. High level of trustworthiness; that he/she works as an individual of complete confidence on tightly-guarded projects. Most projects are handled under legally-binding, non-disclosure agreements.
  • Reflects cultural adeptness given potential role with investors from overseas.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology or Business if with a transportation, manufacturing or logistics concentration; required
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in the field of economic development for railroads or in railroad operations if in a customer/client dependent role; required
  • Strong infrastructure background which includes rail-centric understanding, including understanding of rail operations, as well as the dynamics of infrastructure more broadly understood; required
  • Engineering background a plus, although not required
  • Understanding of warehousing and distribution networks; preferred
  • Understanding of port-related inland logistics; preferred
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background…
