Engineering Manager, Mechanical Department – Fitout

Overview

Austal USA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Department Manager – Fitout to oversee the critical operations within our mechanical engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of vessel arrangements and outfitting of interior accommodations. You will lead a team of Engineers 1 through 4, ensuring the highest standards of performance, safety, and efficiency across these essential systems.

• Report to Senior Department Manager Mechanical Engineering.
• Supervise Engineers I-IV.
• Oversee Department Goals for specific projects as directed by the Program Engineer and Chief Department Engineer.
• Prepare, oversee and assign design calculations and drawing development to support Program Goals.
• Check calculations.
• Progress all department work.

• General:
  Minimum 8+ years of design and/or construction experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of scheduling and ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
• Experience interacting with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.
• Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products.
• Thorough knowledge of vessel arrangements and joiner design.
• Strong working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (e.g., ABS, DNV, GL, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.).
• US Citizenship.

• Computer – MS Office, AutoCAD

• Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management and Equipment Suppliers

• Experienced in the construction of high‑speed aluminum vessels is advantageous but not a requirement.
• Working knowledge of modular construction methods is advantageous but not a requirement.
• Experienced in design and construction of US Navy vessels is advantageous but not a requirement.
• Understanding of shock design is advantageous but not a requirement.

• 18 years of age or older at time of application.
• Able to provide proof of US Person Status.
• No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
• No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
• Willing to submit to a drug screen.
• Willing to submit to a background check.
