Arcadis is looking for a Traffic Engineer with interest in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems and traffic operations and design to join our Alabama team to assist our growing traffic and ITS group in developing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Traffic System Upgrades, Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) and Active Traffic Management (ATM) polices, utilizing data to identify operational and safety needs, preparing design plans, and CAV corridor planning.

You will also perform routine traffic engineering tasks including but not limited to data collection and analysis, volume development, future year traffic projections, traffic analysis, alternative design development, and study documentation. Candidates will also be engaged in traffic design work including traffic signal design, permanent signing, pavement markings, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Location in Southern California is preferred. Candidates will have the ability to work remotely or in office (based on preference) but may be required to attend internal and external client meetings in person as needed.

Role accountabilities
  • Assist our growing traffic engineering group in Southern California in the preparation of engineering reports, studies, and analyses in a wide range of areas including traffic operations, safety, travel demand modeling and transportation planning projects.
  • Conduct traffic operational analysis using microscopic simulation software such as VISSIM, Synchro, Sim Traffic.
  • Responsibilities also include analysis of traffic signal operation on arterials and networks, specification of applicable data collection, development of new signal timing parameters based on detailed analysis, inputting traffic signal plans via central control systems and/or directly into local controllers, and design and analysis of traffic surveys to evaluate signal timing effectiveness.
  • Preparing traffic engineering plans for signal designs, signing and markings designs, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs.
  • Additional responsibilities will include operational analysis using microscopic simulation for intersections, corridors, and interchange traffic.
  • Assisting in the developing ICM and ATM operations and maintenance policies, procedures and manuals.
Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Engineering or related field from accredited university
  • U.S. Driver’s License
Key Skills /Attributes
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    Caltrans design standards, ITS design, Traffic Operations Studies, and Safety Studies.
  • Basic understanding of the use of traffic analysis tools (e.g., VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/Sim Traffic, and HCS).
  • Experience/familiarity with AutoCAD/ Microstation, Synchro.
  • Basic understanding of the application of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Local CA project experience
  • Experience using Synchro/Sim Traffic
  • Understanding and familiarity with MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and DOT Design Guidelines and Standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Transportation Design Experience with Micro Station or AutoCAD.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $64,152 - $96,228.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
