Position: Lead Engineer - Generation (Turbine)

Job Summary

Lead Engineer – Generation (Turbine) role at Alliant Energy in Iowa to support continued growth. The position involves leading complex engineering efforts across energy generation systems, designing, installing, operating, and maintaining critical infrastructure. You will manage contractors, oversee scheduling, and mentor less experienced team members while working autonomously and influencing decisions across multiple levels.

What you will do
  • Identify problems and propose solutions while ensuring safety through the use of tools and standards to design safety into operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Proactively solve highly technical or complex problems using extensive technical knowledge and an understanding of business trends to generate innovative solutions.
  • Develop recommendations that provide technically sound, cost‑effective solutions and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Anticipate customer needs, present alternatives, and constructively influence decision‑making processes.
  • Make higher‑risk decisions with direct application of technical knowledge, ensuring proper sign‑off from the customer.
  • Coordinate and lead cross‑functional teams to address complex technical or operational problems.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to others across a wide range of influence levels.
  • Establish effective working relationships and credibility with employees, contractors, customers, functional groups, and external peers.
  • Identify and develop operational guidelines, standards, training, and strategic plans to sustain improvements.
  • Manage project budgets, including accruals and communication of anticipated changes.
  • Understand corporate financial statements and differentiate the impact of project implementation on rate payers versus shareholders; comprehend pro‑forma analyses of income statements and balance sheets.
  • Support generation facility outages and engage in duties that support Alliant Energy’s values and purpose.
Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering program accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission.

Experience

Minimum nine (9) years of related experience. Project management leadership experience is preferred, with demonstrated expertise in a particular discipline and ability to manage subcontractors and cross‑functional teams.

  • Clear and concise communication with all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs (e.g., e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

Benefits

Pay Range: $115,000 - $200,000, dependent on responsibilities, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other qualifying factors. The position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. All other benefit programs are provided through the company’s standard total rewards package.
