Responsibilities
Devises plans and programs for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Accurately defines and estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Develops inspection and survey procedures to ensure an effective preventative maintenance system. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime.
Utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Monitors spare parts inventory to ensure availability of required parts. Work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Responsible for supporting the planning and scheduling of plant maintenance activities for maximum utilization of equipment and resources.
Purchases and maintains MRO / Maintenance inventories and manages spare parts program. Manages CMMS and acts as subject matter expert for the site.
- Utilizes CMMS to plan/schedule maintenance work for minimum downtime and maximum productivity.
- Executes all maintenance requisitioning of equipment/parts; monitors status of materials and contract services.
- Manages spare parts program; including identification of critical inventory, optimal stock levels, min/max levels and obsolete parts. Provides reports on department KPIs as identified and analyzes data for improvement.
- Ensures compliance of planned jobs with Process Safety Management (PSM), safety and environmental requirements.
- Reviews work orders for accuracy and clarity: clear scope of work, correct equipment identification, realistic lead times and completion dates; discusses details with originator of the work order.
- Defines scope of work to include labor, material, and contractor services and provides total cost estimates.
- Verifies all material, information, tools and labor are available prior to scheduling.
- Coordinates contractor services as needed.
- Leads the scheduling meeting with operations to finalize priority of work orders, optimum downtime windows, and necessary lead times.
- Identifies potential constraints that could impact the schedule and recommends corrective action.
- Finalizes the maintenance resource schedule based on agreed plan with production.
- Communicates schedule to all resources: maintenance, operations, contractor services and engineering.
- Provides daily updates to the schedule showing work completed, rescheduled or cancelled.
- Maintains comprehensive PM plans in CMMS; ensures PM routines are updated as needed.
- Prepares work order kits for planned jobs.
- Participates in project teams to replace, upgrade or expand plant equipment.
- Supports BBS process by performing observations.
- Supports Loss Control policy, AIMS, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment or chemical plant.
- Familiarity with a maintenance environment with a focus on material and purchasing, scheduling changes, etc.
- Prior experience with MS Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- High School Diploma required and/or a certification in maintenance in lieu of a degree.
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification preferred.
- Complies with all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies.
- Available to support continuous plant operations as needed.
- Ability to wear personnel protective equipment such as respirators.
- Knowledge of production processes and equipment; mechanical background preferred.
- Knowledge of maintenance processes; work order system, planning/scheduling and storeroom.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and CMMS; initiative and self-starter.
