Job Overview
This is lead work in operating a wastewater or water treatment plant and allied appurtenances while on an assigned shift. The position will be filled within the Mobile Water and Sewer System, including Prichard Water Works and Sewer Board and Saraland Water and Sewer Board, and the Utilities Board of the City of Bayou La Batre.
CompensationAnnual salary ranges from $43,569 to $82,795 depending on jurisdiction.
Requirements- Graduation from a standard senior high school, or successful completion of the GED test, and a minimum of one year experience at the level of a Treatment Plant Operator I or Pretreatment Specialist I; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
- Must be certified in water or wastewater treatment by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) within six months of employment. Out‑of‑state certifications may be accepted but must be completed within six months.
- Mobile and Saraland: possession of a Grade III Certificate in Water or Wastewater Treatment, preferably both. (Except for assignments to Stickney Filtration Plant and Myers Filtration Plant, which require a Grade IV Water Certificate.)
- Prichard: possession of a Grade II Certificate in Water Treatment or possession of a Grade III or IV Wastewater Certificate.
- Bayou La Batre: possession of a Grade II Certificate in Water Treatment or Grade III Certificate in Wastewater Treatment.
- Other smaller jurisdictions: possession of a Grade II Certification in Water or Wastewater Treatment or both.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license from your state of residence.
- Must meet established medical and physical standards for the class of work.
- 10 days annual vacation with accumulation to 35 days.
