Wastewater Collection System and Treatment Plant Operator
The City of Fayette is seeking a dedicated and skilled Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection and treatment system to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant treatment of wastewater. This is a great opportunity for individuals passionate about environmental protection and public health.
Key Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, and monitor wastewater treatment plant systems, pump motors, and related equipment to ensure efficient treatment processes.
- Maintain grounds at the treatment plant.
- Collect and analyze wastewater samples for testing and maintain chemical inventory for the treatment processes.
- Perform routine inspections of the wastewater collection system to identify and address issues such as blockages, leaks, and structural problems.
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, jetter, and other heavy equipment to perform maintenance or repair tasks.
- Respond to emergency situations, including sewer backups and treatment plant failures, as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State of Alabama Driver's License.
- Certification as a Wastewater Operator Grade 3 or higher, required to be obtained within one year of hire date.
- Must be available during nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Familiarity with the operation of pump motors and other mechanical equipment.
- Must be able to respond to an emergency call within 30 minutes.
- ADEM Grade III certified or higher Wastewater Operator.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a wastewater related field.
- Experience with heavy equipment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance.
- Sick Time.
- Paid week vacation after 1 year of employment.
- RSA Retirement Plan.
