Avionics Test Tool Shop Technician
As an Avionics Test Tool Shop Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the Final Assembly Line by managing, maintaining, and calibrating the specialized test equipment, automated test benches, and tooling used during aircraft systems testing. You will be responsible for ensuring that all Airbus Test Systems and support tools conform to operational specifications and are ready for the production floor.
When equipment malfunctions or software deviations occur, you will be the frontline expert initiating actions to isolate, troubleshoot, and repair the test tools to ensure zero production downtime and peak safety.
- Prepare, configure, and validate specialized avionics test benches, automated test equipment (ATE), and software environments before deployment to the production floor.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and functionality checks on test tools used for evaluating aircraft systems (e.g., flight controls, navigation, cabin systems).
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faulty test equipment, cables, harnesses, and hardware interfaces in coordination with engineering and external vendors.
- Manage the documentation of tool wear or test-bench non-conformity in the SAP system, tracking equipment repairs and managing the recertification process.
- Collaborate with test engineering teams to upgrade, patch, and improve test software scripts, hardware interfaces, and user instructions.
- Provide technical support to Ground Test Performers regarding tool setup and software operations.
- Train team members on the safe handling, connection, and operation of sensitive test equipment and Airbus-specific test benches.
- Ensure the safety of personnel and equipment within the Tool Shop and during tool deployment to the aircraft.
- Review planned tool modifications and perform Safety Risk Analysis on new or altered test setups.
- Ensure all test equipment complies with strict electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical safety standards.
- Document, track, and log the calibration status, safety certifications, and software versions of all active test tools.
- Participate in root-cause problem solving when a tool failure or safety risk is identified.
- Coordinate daily tool and test-bench availability with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Production Planning to prevent assembly line bottlenecks.
- Track the status of open tool-related Non-Conformities and coordinate quick-turnaround repairs.
- Maintain accurate inventory logs of all test equipment, spare parts, and diagnostic tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve tool shop productivity, tool reliability, and the efficiency of the equipment checkout/return process.
