Job Summary
This is routine work in operating a wastewater or water treatment plant and allied appurtenances while on an assigned shift.
Salary and JurisdictionJurisdiction:
Utilities Board of Bayou La Batre.
Yearly Salary: $40,458 - $64,679.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from a standard senior high school, or successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and a minimum of one year experience at the level of a Treatment Plant Operator Trainee; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Special RequirementsMust be certified in water or wastewater treatment by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). Out-of-state certifications may be accepted, but ADEM certification must be completed within 6 months of employment. Mobile – possession of a Grade III Certificate in Water or Wastewater Treatment, preferably both, except for assignment to the Stickney Filtration Plant (Moffat Road) and the Myers Filtration Plant (Hubert Pierce Road) which requires a Grade IV Water Certificate.
Prichard – possession of a Grade II Certificate in Water Treatment or possession of a Grade III or IV Wastewater Certificate. Bayou La Batre – possession of a Grade II Certificate in Water Treatment or Grade III Certificate in Wastewater Treatment. Other smaller jurisdictions require possession of a Grade II Certification in Water or Wastewater Treatment or both. Must possess a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Eligible applicants must meet the established medical and physical standards for the class of work. The medical examination must be performed by one of the physicians designated by the Personnel Board. Appointees must bear the cost of the examination.
