Job Summary

Lead engineer responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and designers. Oversees total delivery of civil/structural deliverables and services on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations. Performs advanced engineering work and serves as a technical specialist for complex assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and approving all civil/structural deliverables.
  • Validating professional service and construction estimates at project initiation and tracking changes throughout the project.
  • Producing professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for deliverables, studies, and proposal efforts.
  • Establishing design criteria that incorporate client requirements, scope, and applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
  • Ensuring permitting requirements are established and communicated to the team.
  • Initiating timely change notices when deviations occur, impacting scope, schedule, or costs.
  • Planning and organizing the work of the team, communicating plans to leadership and clients.
  • Maintaining project control by tracking budget, schedule, and quality performance.
  • Delegating work to engineers and designers based on technical skills and experience, following up to ensure progress and quality.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines and following up to ensure coordinated progress.
  • Producing estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate for the estimate stage.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions.
  • Producing detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
  • Checking calculations by other engineers for accuracy and compliance with codes and design criteria.
  • Creating construction specifications and monitoring drawings for conformance to calculations and specifications.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Providing sufficient sketches and details for completion of engineering drawings.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
  • Producing bid packages to enable procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
  • Participating in planning training programs, continuous education opportunities, and professional development of staff.
  • Leading small to large teams to coordinate civil/structural efforts, keeping focus on scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (Structural coursework required).
  • Professional registration highly preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
  • Familiarity with specifications for construction bulk materials and equipment installation details.
  • Ability to create accurate civil/structural documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Experience developing civil/structural specifications and cost estimates.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, detailed engineering schedule, and man‑hour budget.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Micro Station, or both).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience leading teams to deliver on commitments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Virtual team collaboration skills.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
