Job Description:

The Cabin Design Engineer I (Contract) supports the development, customization, and continuous evolution of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. Working under general direction at an intermediate to advanced professional level, the engineer autonomously performs routine to moderate levels of engineering design, analysis, and data integration from initial conceptual phase to final product installation.

Key responsibilities are balanced across evaluating supplier 3D/2D design solutions, managing part number steering and configuration data within complex PLM databases, troubleshooting installation issues at the Final Assembly Line (FAL), tracking critical supplier engineering deliverables, and authoring customized specifications to meet airline requirements.

Meet the team:

Our Engineers have the privilege of working on complex, highly engineered machines and are involved at all stages of the aircraft life cycle, from product development to manufacturing and direct support to our airline customers. If you’re interested in designing, creating, and testing the present and future of Airbus products across the globe, join our mission to connect the world.

Your working environment:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenge:

Design Integration & Maturation:
Assist in design solution development, layout maturation, and spatial integration using 3D modeling software. Under guidance, support detail part integration, clearance/clash analysis, and basic trade study evaluations.

Configuration & Part Number Steering:
Support the management of part numbers (PNs) and Bill of Materials (BOM) within PLM tools. Help track technical effectivity, interchangeability, and configuration across product variants under the direction of senior team members.

Compliance & Certification Review:
Assist in reviewing and evaluating engineering compliance documents from suppliers to support airworthiness approval. Work with senior engineers to check Certification Plans, Test Plans, Test Reports, and Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP) for basic technical accuracy and alignment with program requirements.

Product Evolution & Change Control:
Contribute to the drafting and coordination of routine engineering change packages (Modifications/MODs) while developing problem-solving skills.

Supplier Technical Coordination:
Support technical collaboration with cabin interior suppliers. Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and integrating supplier-provided drawings, interface documents, and 3D DMU models.

FAL & Manufacturing Support:
Help troubleshoot physical and systems integration issues discovered on the shop floor or at the Final Assembly Line (FAL). Support Manufacturing Engineering in resolving routine installation non-conformances.

Project & Deliverable Management:
Participate in project execution by managing personal task commitments. Assist in tracking supplier progress to help ensure the timely delivery of engineering documents, such as test plans, test reports, and certification data.

Technical Documentation & Customization:
Support the preparation and modification of technical documents and customized airline specifications. Assist in preparing technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Communication:
Participate in cross-functional communication by attending technical integration discussions, assisting with proposed solutions, and helping provide status updates to internal departments (Stress, Procurement, Quality) and external partners.
