The role of A320 Family MAP Cabin & Cargo Engineering Team Manager is a critical leadership position demanding a blend of specialized cabin/cargo system authority and operational influence. To succeed, the candidate must act as a primary technical bridge between the Global Design Office (DOA) and the physical production environment of the Final Assembly Line (FAL).
The core of this role is the ability to lead a specialized team of engineering professionals within a complex, global matrix organization. The manager is responsible for leading the Cabin & Cargo MAP Engineering domain within the Mobile MAP organization, ensuring the highest standards of liaison between Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing.
Operational Optimization & Milestone Gates:
Align cabin system configurations and cargo installation solutions with the immediate needs of Manufacturing Engineering and Production. Translate complex outfit and monument non-conformities into actionable, "Right First Time" design plans that keep the FAL moving without compromising safety.
Transnational Alignment & Product Evolution:
Manage the domain's relationships both locally in Mobile and within the broader transnational Airbus framework. Balance local operational urgency with the strict processes set by the Global Design Office (DOA) and Chief Engineering.
Aircraft Flight Line Readiness & Delivery Integration:
Serve as the technical face of the Cabin & Cargo domain to internal and external customers. Ensure that every cabin layout choice, repair, or design improvement meets the rigorous Aircraft Safety and Airworthiness standards required for final delivery.
Engineering System Governance & Regulatory Compliance:
Drive continuous operational business excellence and enable successful implementation of company strategy. Maintain absolute accountability for the team's skill progression while ensuring all deliverables comply with Design Organization Approval (DOA) mandates.
Technical Leadership: 40%
- Foremost Technical Authority:
Serve as the foremost technical authority for the team and team task deliverables within the Aircraft Cabin and Cargo engineering domains. - Airworthiness Compliance:
Accountable by Airbus engineering delegation to ensure all MAP engineering activities comply with Aircraft Safety and Airworthiness standards. - Engineering Deliverables:
Coordinate on-time engineering support to the FAL and Delivery Center throughout the aircraft manufacturing process up to the ferry flight. - Solution Authorization:
Create, validate, approve, and authorize technical solutions—including justification reports—for repairs, rework, or troubleshooting instructions. - Corrective Actions:
Monitor design corrective actions, improvements, and temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) to resolve product and industrial non-conformities.
People Management & Development: 35%
- Team Direction:
Manage, mentor, and guide the engineering domain group to converge with the high-pressure requirements of the manufacturing units. - Qualification & Delegation:
Define and maintain team member qualifications and delegation targets at the required level of domain expertise. - Performance Management:
Conduct regular performance assessments, provide periodic feedback, and proactively correct performance or behavior issues. - Recruitment:
Lead the recruitment and hiring of team members to build a high-functioning organization based on trust and respect.
Program & Functional Integration: 20%
- Transnational Interface:
Act as the interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer, Design Office, and local Manufacturing/Quality assurance. - Metrics & KPIs:
Assist the Head of MAP Engineering USA by providing performance metrics and contributing to transnational engineering strategies. - Stakeholder Presentation:
Present technical explanations and corrective actions to the flight test department and customers during delivery phase negotiations.

- Cross-Functional Support:
Utilize extensive hybrid and transverse experience to support local and international operational deliverables on an ad-hoc basis. - Milestone Execution:
Exercise Chief Engineers delegation signatory approval to support and unblock production milestone targets locally and internationally. - On-Site Representation:
Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering (CE) office on-site and directly support all local CE deliverables. - Leadership Development:
Provide dedicated coaching and mentoring to fellow MAP Engineering Managers. - Delegation Advancement:
Maintain the technical proficiency required to achieve and execute specialized Chief Engineering Delegations for MAP activities. - Backup to other engineering domains or to the HO A320 Family MAP Engineering - Airframe in case of urgency.
