ResponsibilitiesThe Manager of Patient Access Services manages the day to day operations of the patient access and assists the assistant director/director with all patient flow design, implementation and workflow; coordinates the development, implementation, and operation of Access Services across the health system; ensures that programs align with the health systems strategic initiatives with emphasis on customer service and overall patient experience;
oversees the delivery of services that facilitate patient access across all points in the system; assists in the daily operations of the department and is responsible for the operation of the department in the absence of the Assistant Director/Director, supervising the daily activities of personnel; develops, evaluates, and modifies Revenue Cycle applications and processes directly related to patient access; provides technical and training support to Patient Access staff, administrative staff, technical staff, physicians, and nurses to ensure specific department implementations function properly and are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and best practices;
holds 24-hour accountability for Patient Access services across the health system; assists with personnel functions for the department (i.e. recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, evaluations, counseling, and education; assists in developing an annual budget that meets the departments needs within the framework of available resources; assists in monitoring budgetary expenses and revenues, identifying variances and adjusting spending accordingly; develops, implements, and updates policies and procedures in a collaborative and interdisciplinary process according to the Joint Commission, hospital, and health system standards;
assists in the Health System Information Systems department in the selection, testing, and implementation of systems related to Patient Access Services process; develops custom reporting of Patient Access Services data to measure accuracy, customer satisfaction, and education of staff in correction of errors; assists as needed with review of Revenue Cycle and assists with development of corporate policies and procedures to ensure process is effective, efficient, and customer friendly;
provides lateral supervision to Bed Placement Associates and coordinator working within the nursing Administration Department at USA Health University Hospital; assists the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Center, with the personnel functions of Bed Placement Associates and Coordinators; participates in the strategic planning activities for the department and institution; assists in the development of strategic plan for the department that supports the health systems overall plan;
translates the department or health systems strategic plan to staff, ensuring support to the plan and modifying the plan in response to changing internal and external factors; assumes accountability for current standards established professions, regulatory, and governmental agencies; determines, translates, and implements relevant standards and promotes department compliance; maintains standards of practice consistent with current findings; assists in the development and maintenance of a performance improvement program for the department utilizing the PDSA methodology;
assists in managing the operations of patient admission and registration across the health system; ensures coordination with the other departments in the health system to provide quality patient services; ensures smooth and efficient admitting functions by supervising operations and expediting problems; ensures accurate information is being collected and entered correctly into the HSIS system; oversees the activities of assigned personnel including planning work schedules and time off;
confirms that all insurance benefits coverage meets the standards of admission as dictated by policy; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of hospital admitting experience.
