Position: Staff Pharmacist PMEL FT

Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system – and their personal health care – by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. Within our Retail locations, we bring this promise to life with heart every day.

The Pharmacy Manager Emerging Leader (PMEL) plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team, while developing their own leadership skills in preparation for increasing responsibility. As a PMEL, you will build upon your skills and responsibilities as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist and build additional competencies to become ready for a Pharmacy Manager (PM) role.

Program length depends on prior leadership experience inside and outside of CVS Health but is typically completed within 3‑6 months for most Pharmacy Manager candidates. While completing this roadmap, you will continue delivering our purpose, modeling our values, and demonstrating genuine, authentic care for our patients, acting as a role model, mentor, and guide for the pharmacy team.

Responsibilities
  • Complete a self‑paced, collaborative training roadmap with virtual and hands‑on learning experiences to prepare you to lead a pharmacy independently.
  • Support the home store PM by exhibiting best practices when working the bench, quarterbacking the team, providing patients with meaningful counseling, and complying with all legal, regulatory, and workplace policies.
  • Take on greater accountability for managing, overseeing, and operating all aspects within your pharmacy, including but not limited to: improving patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices; strengthening pharmacy performance measures through coaching and consistent follow‑up; and providing feedback to the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, coaching the pharmacy team to do the same, and proactively resolving insurance or medication issues.
  • Proactively offer and deliver immunizations to keep patients healthy; engage and support Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize.
  • Support effective management of pharmacy inventory, focusing especially on protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to maintain compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues to the Pharmacy Manager and/or Rx DL as needed.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, support the Pharmacy Manager by writing schedules and ensuring compliance with state and local requirements.
  • Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, seek opportunities to expand knowledge, and support patients through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal and state laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ months of experience as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist.
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Able to focus on tasks over extended periods, pivot quickly, confirm prescription information and label accuracy, and ensure patient safety.
