Summary
Under direct supervision, perform entry-level duties in the enforcement of environmental and public health sanitation laws. Acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct inspections, investigations, evaluations, and educational programs in environmental and public health sanitation. Public contact and considerable travel are required. Participate in a sanitation training program. Learn to conduct health inspections for food service establishments, sewage disposal systems, hotels, swimming pools, schools, day care centers, and other registered facilities to determine compliance with health regulations.
Do on-site inspections of all private sewage disposal systems, investigate nuisance complaints, collect water and food samples, attend in-service training and other meetings and trainings.
Training: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Note: Applicants with a major in public health, environmental health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be given preference in appointment.
Must be permitted as a sanitarian-in-training or certified as a sanitarian with the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be permitted or certified with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Wa. Code R.§20-4-4 es seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
