Position: Patient Transport Aide -Interfacility Patient Transp. - Providence Hospital

Job Title

Responsibilities

Safely transports patient throughout the hospital using wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and other approved equipment.

Responds promptly to transport requests and prioritizes assignments according to departmental procedures and patient-care needs.

Uses two approved patient identifiers to verify the correct patient prior to transport.

Confirms the patient's destination and appropriate mode of transportation before leaving the sending department.

Introduces self to the patient, explains the transportation process, and provides courteous and compassionate assistance.

Ensures patients are appropriately positioned and secured before and during transportation.

Uses wheelchair brakes, safety belts, side rails, stretcher locks, and other safety devices according to hospital policy.

Assists with transferring and positioning patients using proper body mechanics and approved safe patient-handling techniques.

Obtains assistance or uses appropriate patient-lifting equipment when required.

Observes the patient during transport and immediately reports changes in condition or signs of distress to appropriate clinical personnel.

Follows established procedures for the patient's requiring oxygen, IVs, drains, catheters, or other approved medical equipment during transport.

Ensures oxygen tanks and other equipment are properly secured during transport.

Does not disconnect, adjust, or manipulate medical equipment outside the defined scope of the position.

Communicates with nursing and receiving departments regarding patient arrival, delays, or concerns.

Ensures appropriate hand off of the patient to receiving department personnel when required.

Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.

Assists with transportation of patient belongings and mobility devices when appropriate.

Cleans and disinfects wheelchairs, stretchers, and other transport equipment between patients according to infection-prevention standards.

Follows standard precautions, isolation requirements, and appropriate PPE procedures.

Maintains transport equipment in a clean, safe, and ready-to-use condition.

Reports damaged or malfunctioning transportation equipment promptly.

Accurately documents transport activity using the hospital's established transportation or electronic tracking system.

Communicates transportation delays or barriers that could affect patient flow or scheduled procedures.

Provides excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors, and hospital staff.

Performs other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Adhere to regular and prompt attendance.

Work the assigned schedule including overtime and call as required.

Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of PDSA process as assigned.

Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements.

Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.

Regular and prompt attendance.

Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.

Related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Required

DL NUMBER
- Driver License, Valid and in State maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama commercial auto insurance policy Required

BCLS
- Basic Life Support within 30 Days Required

Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
