Job Description
Mobile, AL: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform patient blood collection and specimen processing in a clinical laboratory environment. This is an entry-level opportunity requiring no previous experience. The Phlebotomist will work under direct supervision while maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, quality standards, and accurate specimen handling.
Essential Duties:
• Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered
• Obtain required patient consent and ensure appropriate pre-authorizations are completed
• Maintain accurate patient identification throughout specimen collection and processing
• Properly identify and label specimens for blood bank testing and other laboratory procedures
• Process properly labeled specimens according to established procedures
• Maintain laboratory quality assurance documentation, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists
• Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure supplies are viable before use for patient collection
• Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in-house
• Process in-house and incoming laboratory reports
• Update and maintain laboratory paperwork, logs, and maintenance records
• Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition
• Perform waived laboratory testing under appropriate supervision
• Follow CLIA guidelines and maintain required quality control, calibration, and reagent documentation
• Comply with OSHA requirements, safety procedures, quality assurance standards, and Universal Precautions
• Properly dispose of hazardous and biohazardous materials
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient and medical information
Requirements/Skills:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Entry-level position; previous experience is not required
• Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended
• Current state licensure, if applicable
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures safely and accurately
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and safety requirements
• Ability to work effectively under direct supervision
• Ability to distinguish colors and perform detailed visual tasks
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to frequently stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to use hands and fingers for phlebotomy, specimen handling, and laboratory procedures
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Requires corrected vision, color perception, and hearing within a normal range
• Ability to work safely around blood, body fluids, infectious agents, chemicals, needles, glassware, and other potential laboratory hazards
