The Role
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports payroll operations by ensuring data integrity, resolving payroll-related issues, and maintaining confidential employee information. The role works closely with Human Resources and Finance to support payroll compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement of payroll processes.
WhatYou'll Do
- Process multi-state payroll on a regular basis (weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly as applicable) with a high degree of accuracy
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including tax with holdings, wage and hour rules, and garnishments
- Review and reconcile payroll reports, deductions, benefits, and timekeeping data prior to payroll submission
- Manage payroll adjustments such as bonuses, commissions, retro pay, and final paychecks
- Respond to employee payroll questions in a timely, professional, and confidential manner
- Maintain accurate payroll records and support audits as needed
- Partner with HR and Finance on payroll-related initiatives, reporting, and process improvements
- Assist with year-end activities including W-2 preparation and reconciliation
Required:
- 2–4+ years of payroll processing experience
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, federal and state taxes, wage and hour laws, and payroll best practices
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Experience working with payroll systems and timekeeping platforms
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience using Rippling for payroll and/or HR administration
- Multi-state payroll experience
- CPP or FPC certification (or interest in pursuing certification)
- Experience partnering closely with HR teams on payroll-related matters
