Job Description
REPORTS TO:
Directly: ILS Technical Writer Lead Indirectly: ILS Manager SUPERVISES: N/A Authorities / Responsibilities
- Responsible for development, and submission preparation of all assigned equipment and system/special manuals:
- Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences
- Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations and trade journals.
- Preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
- Interfaces with subject matter experts and other engineering personnel during the development of these products.
- Responsible for interfacing with OEMs/Suppliers to obtain Vendor Furnished Information as needed
- Responsible for interfacing sub-contractor personnel on all technical manual related issues
- Responsible for ensuring all change order activity that impacts assigned technical manuals is processed, documented and communicated to rest of ILS Team
- Successful applicant must be willing to cross-train to other areas within ILS as necessary
- 3 years of Navy/USCG/MSC technical manual development experience
- Knowledge of XML/SGML tagging procedures preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience interacting with internal and external customers
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Related degrees advantageous
- Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office products.
- Prior U.S. Navy, MSC or USCG experience desired, but not required
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
- Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:
- 18 years of age or older at time of application
- Able to provide proof of US Person Status
- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
- Willing to submit to a drug screen
- Willing to submit to a background check
