AboutThe Role
The Service Delivery DF Test and Turn Up Specialist will focus on providing excellent customer service and end-to-end operational oversight of DF customer turn-ups. The position will have overall test and turn up support responsibility – including internal and external coordination and technical assistance.
Position SummaryThe Service Delivery DF Test and Turn Up Specialist will focus on providing excellent customer service and end-to-end operational oversight of DF customer turn-ups. The position will have overall test and turn up support responsibility – including internal and external coordination and technical assistance. This role will review and validate OTDR shots, lead customer-facing troubleshooting during new service activations, and coordinate closely with Network Operations teams to ensure a timely, high-quality service.
In addition, this position will serve as a team leader regarding process development and supervising project managers, as needed.
- Service Delivery Interface & Coordination
- Maintain proactive cadence with Dark Fiber customers in relation to their test and turn up efforts
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholder meetings in support of test and turn up efforts; including readiness checks for continuity, labeling, cross-connects, and demarc validation
- Provide timely project updates to internal and external customers
- Conduct trend analysis of projects to identify roadblocks and areas of opportunity for improvement
- Documentation
- Efficient and productive use of all available tools, i.e., Salesforce, Excel, MS Visio, etc.
- Create project tracking reports and dashboards to provide real time analysis of project status
- Working with Network and Fiber Operations teams to ensure all necessary Circuit documentation is easily accessible and organized (ex: Leasing, WIN APA, Sapphire identifying information)
- OTDR Analysis & Fiber Characterization
- Review OTDR traces for accuracy and quality, ensuring correct test parameters and documentation
- Identify and document splices, connectors, reflective/non-reflective events; calculate end-to-end loss, ORL, and attenuation
- Compare results to baselines/as-builts, flag anomalies, and recommend remediation
- Produce OTDR review reports and update inventory/GIS with validated data
- Process Development
- Organize and conduct test and turn up training for project managers and new hires
- Collaborate internally to establish or improve processes related to DF test and turn up
- Participate in post-implementation reviews and periodic quality audits
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency
- Cross-functional coordination, scheduling, and escalation management
- Relationship management - ability to develop and maintain productive stakeholder relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
- Customer focused - including internal customers
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

- 3-5 years of experience in fiber optic network operations, OSP/ISP, or service delivery
- Experience managing dark fiber routes, splice validation, and GIS/strand inventory updates
- Working knowledge of chromatic dispersion and PMD testing
- Expertise with OTDR testing, use of launch/receive fibers, and interpretation of event tables
- Proficiency with light source/power meter testing, connector inspection/cleaning, and loss budget calculations
- Sitting, standing, and walking
- Keyboarding/typing
- Overtime and weekends as necessary
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device and/or a paper copy
