Overview
As a member of the Supply Chain group at Austal, you will assist in ensuring material and service support needs are met while delivering high customer service.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the Supply Chain Management Team to support procurement and logistics processes.
- Assist in day‑to‑day subcontract administration, issuing purchase orders, and following up with requesters.
- Conduct basic market research, supplier sourcing and price/cost analysis.
- Maintain supplier metrics, advise suppliers on performance and conduct site audits when required.
- Review statements of work, material specifications, and service contracts.
- Escalate issues as appropriate and serve as backup liaison for supplier communications.
- Assign budgets to purchase orders, approve invoices and monitor spend plans for projects.
- Evaluate supplier financial stability, technical capability, process control, capacity and continuous improvement practices.
- Track inventory levels, process orders and coordinate transportation logistics.
- Adhere to Supply Chain policies, procedures and confidentiality requirements.
- Provide assistance to related departments and assist in coordination with all departments on subcontract issues.
- Assist suppliers and internal teams under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Perform other duties as assigned by managers.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Material Management, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- Maintaining a GPA of at least 2.5 (4.0 scale) and a rising Junior or Senior.
- Experience in material or service sourcing activities including quoting, analyzing and negotiating.
- Experience in supplier rationalization, familiarity with Approved Supplier Lists, Bid Lists and small‑business requirements.
- Proficient Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) to manipulate RFQs, quotations and presentations.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;
Access an advantage. - Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as IFS, SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle or BAAN.
- Understanding of UCC, FAR, DFARS, ITAR, ISO 9000, AS9100, TS16949 and ERP logic.
- Ability to apply structured thinking, anticipate consequences and work self‑directedly.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. person.
- No felony convictions of theft, deception, violent crimes, or drug crimes within the past 7 or 3 years respectively.
- Willing to submit to drug screening and background check.
- May need to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance for this position.
- Work up to 32 hours per week based on a weekly running average.
- Work environment may include exposure to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, weather, fumes, airborne particles and high noise levels (+90dB).
