Position: Location General Manager in Training

Position Overview

As a Location General Manager in Training (LGM), you will begin a leadership development program designed to prepare you for full responsibility over one or more Car Max store locations. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, associate engagement, and customer satisfaction while ensuring alignment with Car Max's culture and strategic objectives. You will lead senior management teams, set store strategy, and create an environment where associates thrive and customers experience best-in-class service.

Responsibilities
  • Lead total store operations, focusing on associate development, profitability, and customer satisfaction, with emphasis on sales processes and budget management.
  • Manage financial performance through effective P&L oversight and cost-control initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence by reducing waste and introducing process improvements that enhance customer and associate experiences.
  • Recruit, train, and promote associates, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent to support store success and company growth.
  • Foster engagement and development through regular feedback, performance reviews, and coaching conversations.
  • Provide vision and motivation to senior management teams, setting clear strategies and goals for store success.
  • Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) program for your department and/or location, including self-inspections, hazardous waste disposal, workplace safety, and PPE.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and associates across departments.
  • Proficiency in data interpretation and record management for accurate reporting and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent, critical business decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
  • 5+ years of management experience, preferably in retail, with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Completion of Car Max-provided training and intermediate PC skills.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel for meetings or training.
