Overview

Machinist will work in the Machine Shop, set up and operate Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Production equipment as well as manual shop equipment (milling machines and lathes). This employee will work with minimum supervision fabricating.

Airbus is an authorized DoD Skill Bridge partner (per DoDI 1322.29). This 180-day program allows transitioning service members to leverage their military technical expertise in a high-precision aerospace environment.

  • Active-duty service member within 180 days of separation.
  • Written Commander (O-4 or above) authorization.

U.S. Assembly Facility

On “Airbus Way” you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of Airbus’ strategy to meet growing customer needs in the United States and beyond.

Kinson, NC:
The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Columbus, MS:
On the eastern border of Mississippi you’ll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It’s here we produce UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your Challenges Primary Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Parts: 45%
  • Perform all aspects of machining to include setup and operation of equipment such as 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, routers, lasers as well as manual milling machines; manual experience programming using Catia or better. Read and write G-code using CAM software as the machine controller. Produce quality products in a timely manner using specifications and documents in conjunction with written work.
  • Maintain a demanding level of quality when working with aerospace materials such as aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and other materials.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and written work plans; study work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Utilize ISO-compliant documentation to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup. Use various measuring techniques to validate conformance to requirements.
  • Knowledge of tooling, tool setting and offsetting; setting work offsets; basic inspections. Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjust machine controls. Verify conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conduct subsequent inspections per the machine shop’s SPC. Use hand deburr tools. Communicate with lead person or supervisor to resolve machining issues.
  • Adhere to all safety and security requirements. Interact effectively with Engineers and Quality teams. Maintain good written and verbal communication.
  • CNC Programming: 30%
  • Code programs for new parts; create and correct DXF and GNH files in Enroute or Gravostyle software systems. Create setup instructions. Review CAD design blueprints.
  • Establish sequencing of cuts for each job. Choose cutting tools for each job.
