Job Title:
Assembler / F.A.T. Technician (Factory Acceptance Testing)
Location:
Mobile, AL (Local candidates only)
Duration: 12 Months Contract
Shift: Monday–Friday, 12-hour shifts (Weekends as needed)
Pay Rate: $27–$30/hr
Position SummaryThe F.A.T. (Factory Acceptance Test) Technician is responsible for performing factory-authorized and verification testing for OSS Umbilicals and related products. This role is critical to ensuring product quality, integrity, and safety prior to delivery to the client.
The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on testing experience across fiber optics, electrical cables, and high‑pressure hydraulic systems
, with a strong focus on quality, documentation, and safety.
- Perform fiber optic testing and splicing (Outside Plant), including:
- OTDR testing through splices
- Perform low voltage (up to 1000V) and medium voltage (6000V+) cable testing
, including: - Conductor resistance
- Insulation resistance
- Continuity
- Crosstalk / attenuation
- High potential (Hi-Pot) testing
- Perform and assist in hydrostatic pressure testing of SDSS Umbilicals and DE products in the 10,000–30,000 PSI range
- Set up specialized test equipment, perform leak checks, and verify test completion
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on high‑pressure water jet and Hydratron pumps
- Set up and manage digital recording of pressure tests (e.g., Compact
RIO, NI equipment, pressure transducers) - Record all test data accurately using correct digital methods
- Troubleshoot product and test equipment issues
- Read and interpret electrical, fiber optic, and hydraulic schematics
- Interpret test data (plots, graphs, tables) and determine pass/fail results
- Identify and document Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support corrective actions
- Maintain tool status and ensure proper use and care
- Follow all safety procedures
, including PPE and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) - Maintain a clean and organized work area to assembly standards
- Provide clear communication on production status, completed tasks, and shift handovers
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous hands‑on experience aligned with:
- High‑pressure hydrostatic testing (preferably 10,000–30,000 PSI)
- Fiber optic testing,
fusion splicing, and OTDR - Electrical cable testing (Low and Medium Voltage)
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics (electrical, fiber, hydraulic)
- Strong attention to detail and quality documentation
- Ability to work 12‑hour shifts and weekends as needed
