Position Summary:

AAA United States, Inc. has partnered with a company in Lockport, LA that is the leading provider of quality construction, manufacturing, engineering, repair, and conversion products and services to the marine industry.

A 1st Class Steel Ship fitter is responsible for performing layout, cutting, measuring, and structural fitting of steel components used in ship construction.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform layout and structural fitting of steel components using blueprints, sketches, and templates.
  • Cut steel materials using torches and other fabrication tools.
  • Measure materials using metric systems (cm, mm) to ensure precise fit and alignment.
  • Assemble, align, and fit structural parts such as plates, beams, and frames.
  • Ensure all work meets required quality standards and shipbuilding specifications.
  • Interpret technical drawings and determine proper sequence of operations.
  • Maintain proper fit-up for welding by tack fitting and securing materials.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with welders, supervisors, and team members to complete projects efficiently.
Requirements:
  • Experience in ship fitting or structural steel fabrication.
  • Ability to pass a hands‑on craft test demonstrating fitting, cutting, and measuring skills.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with torch cutting and structural fitting processes.
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety standards and procedures.
