Position: Machinist (2nd or 3rd Shift)

Position Summary

Machinist will work in the Machine Shop, set up and operate Computer Numeric Control (CNC) production equipment as well as manual shop equipment (milling machines and lathes). This position could be hired for 2nd Shift (2:00‑10:30PM) or 3rd Shift (10:00PM‑6:30AM) and must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of machining to include setup and operation of equipment such as 3‑axis and 5‑axis CNC mills, lathes, routers, lasers as well as manual milling machine and manual experience programming using Catia or better.
  • Ability to read and write g‑code using CAM software as the machine controller.
  • Produce quality products in a timely manner using specifications and documents in conjunction with written work.
  • Maintain a demanding level of quality working on aerospace materials such as aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and other materials.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and written work plans, machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Utilize ISO compliant documentation and/or processes to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup.
  • Use various measuring techniques to validate conformance to requirements.
  • Know tooling, tool setting and offsetting, setting work offsets, and basic inspections.
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls.
  • Verify conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conduct subsequent inspection in accordance with the machine shop's statistical process control (SPC) inspection.
  • Use hand deburring tools.
  • Confere with lead person, machine shop supervisor or others to resolve machining issues.
  • Adhere to all safety and security requirements.
CNC Programming
  • Code programs for new parts that come into the shop.
  • Create and correct DXF and GNH files in Enroute or Gravostyle.
  • Create instructions for setups.
  • Review CAD design blueprints.
  • Establish sequencing of cuts for each job.
  • Choose cutting tool to be used for each job.
Sheet Metal Installation
  • Read detailed plans and diagrams and inspect and measure parts prior to assembly, ensuring parts are free of defects.
  • Cut, grind, or trim parts to fit.
  • Assist in developing patterns or templates to simplify manufacturing processes and assure proper cut, file, drill and ream of metal, plastic, and rubber sections.
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade School Certification preferred.
Experience
  • Two or more years of experience working in a Machine/Fab Shop in an aerospace or related/transferrable field (automotive, shipbuilding, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills & Demonstrated Capabilities
  • Must be able to write code for CNC programming (create and correct DXF and GNH files) from drawings.
  • Able to read/interpret blueprints including knowledge of blueprint drawing tolerance.
  • Computer skills including Autocad, EnRoute, Gravostyle, Google Workspace.

    Able to push/pull items in office areas and shop floor.
  • Sitting:
    Sit for extended periods.
  • Squatting/Kneeling:
    Occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve items.
  • Standing:
    Stand for extended periods while delivering information.
  • Travel/Mobility:
    Travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods.
  • Walking:
    Walk through office and production areas, around flight lines and airstrips, and on uneven surfaces.
