Overview

Airbus Americas, Inc is looking for a Lean Improver Expert to join our team based in Mobile, AL. The Lean Improver Expert contributes to the Airbus Industrial strategy by defining and deploying working methods within operational teams, with direct contact with key stakeholders. You will address systemic operational performance issues with piloted, standardized and sustainable solutions through the Airbus Operating System.

Team and Environment

Our engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility work on aircraft from concept to customer delivery, collaborating with production teams on assembly, technical information, quality control, maintenance, and health & safety across flowlines and flight lines. You will be part of a team delivering aircraft from concept to customer delivery.

Your Working Environment

At the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft in Mobile, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility supports Airbus’ strategy to enhance global competitiveness by meeting customer needs in the United States and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deployment:
    Define and deploy ways of working within operational teams; influence plant management teams (CDT, plant managers, HO functions)
  • Improve business efficiency by advising plant stakeholders on priorities and how to apply standards, methods and behaviors
  • Develop and implement Lean/AOS standards; pilot first implementations following the deployment strategy with a "we do, you do" approach
  • Set up governance and steering at all levels, secure a deployment roadmap, and contribute to a consolidated AOS architecture strategy
  • Support key projects with Lean/AOS skills to deliver tangible benefits and sustainable performance
  • Facilitate workshops and coaching on topics such as vision, Hoshin Kanri, macro VSM, macro VSM, kaizen, etc.
  • Lead shop floor coaching and support senior management in governance activities
Development, Industrial Assessment and Diagnosis
  • Develop Lean/AOS standards to address business issues; follow the 6-phase methodology:
    Stake, Standard Way of Working, Pilot, Learning Solution, Deployment Plan, Assessment
  • Assess standard implementation level using the implementation checklist; lead industrial maturity assessments
  • Lead industrial task forces: diagnosis, solution definition, implementation, and results achievement
  • Advise managers on performance improvements via targeted AOS diagnosis (Macro-VSM, shop-floor observations)
Coaching, Influencing and Training
  • Design and deliver on-the-job coaching of the AOS deployment strategy with operational and local teams
  • Create coaching, mentoring and training approaches for change management, Lean and AOS standards/tools
  • Transfer knowledge to local plant/FAL teams and grow autonomy of managers and change agents
  • Support training development and deployment; identify competence gaps and elevate top management awareness
  • Promote internal best practices and external benchmarking through transversal collaboration
Your Boarding Pass (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in lean/continuous improvement projects with tangible and sustainable results
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes, production management and industrialization principles
  • Project management experience with cross-functional teams and financial awareness
  • Operational experience in implementing and optimizing industrial systems
  • Strong communication, proactive problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Coaching and training competencies with leadership and assertiveness to influence
  • Ability to train managers, technicians and operators
  • Deep knowledge of AOS/Lean manufacturing; experience with quality tools and process optimization
  • Experience leading Lean workshops (kaizen, VSM, SMED, 5S, etc.) and operations in a lean environment
  • Fluent in local language;
    English negotiation level
Preferred
  • APICS basic level, Six Sigma/Lean Black Belt, Kepner-Tregoe or equivalent
