Industrial Engineer - Final Assembly Line & Completion Operations (Aerospace)
We are seeking Industrial Engineers to support the A320 Final Assembly Line (FAL) and Completion Operations in Mobile, Alabama. This role is focused on ensuring aircraft progress efficiently from Business Unit 3 (Final Assembly Line) through the Completion phase by driving operational performance, reducing Outstanding Work (OSW), supporting line balancing activities, and maintaining adherence to production schedules. The Industrial Engineer will work closely with Aircraft Managers (ACMs), Production, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations leaders to monitor aircraft status by MSN (Manufacturer Serial Number), identify risks to schedule attainment, drive recovery actions, and support Operating System (AOS) deployment and operational routines.
The successful candidate will act as the operational "drumbeat" for aircraft flow, ensuring visibility of constraints, Non-Conformities (Company), resource imbalances, and outstanding work that may impact delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities- Aircraft Flow Management
- Monitor and manage aircraft progression from Business Unit 3 through Completion operations.
- Track aircraft status by MSN across the production system.
- Ensure production activities remain aligned with takt planning and delivery milestones.
- Identify potential bottlenecks, schedule risks, and flow disruptions.
- Escalate risks and coordinate mitigation plans with stakeholders.
- Drive recovery plans when aircraft deviate from planned schedules.
- Outstanding Work (OSW) Management
- Monitor OSW transferred between stations and into completion areas.
- Analyze OSW trends and identify recurring drivers.
- Develop action plans to reduce OSW accumulation.
- Challenge operational teams on carry-over work impacting aircraft flow.
- Support closure of residual work packages before aircraft delivery.
- Line Balancing & Industrial Performance
- Analyze workload distribution across production stations and completion bays.
- Assess resource utilization and operational efficiency.
- Support line balancing initiatives to optimize takt adherence.
- Identify constraints impacting performance.
- Recommend improvements to support stable production flow.
- Production Planning & Schedule Adherence
- Compare actual aircraft progress against baseline schedules.
- Evaluate the impact of Non-Conformities (Company), disruptions, and rework on production plans.
- Support development of recovery scenarios and alternative execution plans.
- Drive actions necessary to maintain delivery objectives.
- Digital Performance Monitoring
- Utilize production systems and dashboards to track aircraft performance.
- Support ongoing deployment and maintenance of operational performance visualization tools.
- Monitor live production data by MSN through Skywise-connected reporting solutions.
- Ensure data accuracy and provide operational leadership with relevant performance insights.
- Analyze production metrics and develop recommendations for operational improvements.
- Non-Conformity (NC) Impact Analysis
- Integrate quality and production data to evaluate the impact of Company on schedule performance.
- Support cross-functional teams in prioritizing critical issues.
- Assess downstream impacts of open Company on completion and delivery activities.
- Provide visibility to leadership regarding risk to planned milestones.
- Operating System Support
- Support deployment and sustainment of the Operating System.
- Facilitate operational routines and performance reviews within Business Unit 3 and Completion areas.
- Participate in SQCDP meetings and daily management routines.
- Drive data-driven problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing principles and operational excellence initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner closely with Aircraft Managers (ACMs) to ensure aircraft-level coordination.
- Collaborate with Production Leadership, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, Logistics, and Industrial Performance teams.
- Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure timely issue resolution.
- Act as a focal point for aircraft progression within assigned operational areas.
