- Practices family centered nursing according to policies and Nurse Practice Act; serves as Charge Nurse when assigned; supervises, plans, evaluates, and coordinates patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values;
adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; serves as preceptor for new employees and nursing students; utilizes the nursing process to assess patients, plan individual care, identify expected outcomes, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families; administers medications including controlled substances by all routes; administers blood and blood products; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; performs basic life support and management of arrest situations;
starts IVs; performs activities of daily living; uses proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients; provides patient education by planning, coordinating and delegating the educational needs of each patient; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Clinical Information System; communicates with physicians, patients, families and the healthcare team in person and via telephone; completes required unit documentation and adheres to Infection Control and Safety Standards. - Starts IVs; manages patient care documentation including flow charts, pain assessments, discharge forms, and MAR; transcribes physician orders; ensures all required unit, educational and hospital requirements are completed; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; maintains an up-to-date knowledge base of unit policies and procedures, equipment location and supplies.
- Utilizes the appropriate communication skills with referring hospital personnel and transport team members throughout the transport process; provides on-call support to the unit when Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team has been dispatched; serves as PICC Line Team Member and maintains competency in all advanced nursing, transport procedures and skills.
- Participates on committees as assigned and contributes to Quality Management initiatives; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; ensures regular and prompt attendance and ability to work the defined schedule with overtime as required; performs related duties as required.
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications- Current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama. USA Health abides by the NLC requirements and guidelines for the state of Alabama.
- Demonstrated ability to provide competent patient care across patient populations as specified (Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School Age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal).
