Job Summary

Performs the primary functions of a registered nurse in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients.

Responsibilities
  • Supports the care of the patient and assesses and addresses the needs of the patient/family.
  • Works collaboratively with other interprofessional team members in resolving patient/family problems, concerns and issues.
  • Collaborates with other departments as needed to establish the patient/family treatment plan.
  • Individualizes, implements, evaluates or updates the plan of care and patient educational needs regarding vascular access.
  • Possesses the ability to complete intravenous insertion and assessment to include peripheral and central line access.
  • Utilizes equipment such as point of care ultrasound equipment and intravenous infusion pumps as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates proper interpretation of department specific policies and related laboratory results to safely manage specific patient needs.
  • Implements, monitors and records patient care and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Takes appropriate actions to unanticipated changes in patient condition.
  • Utilizes the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to access treatment and therapy plans.
  • Applies existing evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department’s scope of service.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
Experience
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.
Required Licenses & Certifications (by State)
  • Illinois: BLS HCP (American Heart Association), RN (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse, and/or various anticoagulation or oncology nursing certifications.
  • Missouri: BLS HCP (American Heart Association), RN (Missouri Division of Professional Registration) or RN issued by Compact State, Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse, and/or various anticoagulation or oncology nursing certifications.
  • Oklahoma: BLS HCP (American Heart Association), RN (Oklahoma Board of Nursing) or RN issued by Compact State, Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse, and/or various anticoagulation or oncology nursing certifications.
  • Wisconsin: BLS HCP (American Heart Association), RN (Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services) or RN issued by Compact State, Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse, and/or various anticoagulation or oncology nursing certifications.
