- Plans, implements, and evaluates an ongoing hospital-wide employee health program; participates in Employee and Occupational Health related committees.
- Provides immediate evaluation, triage, and management of employee illnesses and occupational exposures (e.g., blood borne pathogens, body fluid splashes, tuberculosis, communicable diseases).
- Conducts exposure risk assessments and initiates appropriate laboratory testing based on exposure type and current guidelines.
- Coordinates and performs health and drug screenings on current employees.
- Performs for-cause urinary drug screenings in accordance with organizational policy, regulatory standards, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Leads and maintains the facility Respiratory Protection Program, including annual fit testing, respirator selection, and employee education.
- Evaluates employee health data and performs follow‑up as necessary.
- Administers medications by all routes, including controlled substances and immunizations by all routes.
- Investigates and evaluates employee illness and exposures; coordinates required follow‑ups.
- Identifies and takes appropriate action on workplace health and safety issues.
- Develops, updates, and enforces Employee Health Onboarding and Occupational Health policies and procedures.
- Evaluates, plans, and implements employee‑occupational education to ensure a safe workplace environment.
- Reviews and analyzes data for trends and patterns; recommends actions for improvement based on data and ongoing observations.
- Provides departmental feedback.
- Participates and assists in approved research studies and projects (when applicable).
- Maintains a database utilizing a PC (Microsoft programs; Occupational Health EMR system and portals).
- Participates in the USA Health System Performance Improvement Program; successfully presents data to various groups to highlight potential opportunities for improvement as it relates to Occupational Health.
- Maintains accurate and complete medical records.
- Collaborates with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to support exposure investigations, contact tracing, and implementation of work restrictions and return‑to‑work guidance.
- Participates in emergency preparedness and disaster response activities, supporting employee health needs and exposure management during incidents.
- Evaluates needs of employees and coordinates and implements health promotion activities.
- Utilizes the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluating care.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with employees, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating professionalism and strong customer service skills.
- Maintains regular attendance, works assigned schedules, and performs additional duties as required.
- Related duties as required.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements.
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as assigned.
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama and 3 years of professional nursing experience Required
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing and experience as an Employee Health Nurse or Occupational Health Nurse Preferred
- RN
- Registered Nurse
- State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required - COHN
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse Preferred - Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office 365. Medium
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. High
