Responsibilities
  • Participates in direct patient care activities under the supervision of a physician or advanced practitioner.
  • Assesses patient health status by completing a nursing assessment and documents findings in the EMR.
  • Provides patient/caregiver/family education regarding all aspects of care.
  • Enters electronic orders into the EMR under the direction of a provider including new prescriptions, refills, diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, surgery, procedures, and referrals.
  • Participates with management in the development and initiation of practice-specific policies, protocols, and critical pathways
  • Contacts the patient/caregiver/family for all results and provides further education as directed by the provider. Documents interaction in the EMR.
  • Reviews all results for urgency and abnormality and escalates to provider for immediate attention.
  • Ensures clinic rooms and equipment are prepared for use as well as maintaining adequate supply inventory.
  • Assists with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Prepares and obtains all medical records, radiology images, referring physician information prior to patients' appointments.
  • Uses standing orders and protocols to review patient results and provide instruction under the direction of a physician or advanced practitioner.
  • Performs telephone triage and assessment. Uses standing orders and approved protocols to educate and guide patients based on assessments. Notifies provider as needed and documents interactions in EMR.
  • Collaborates with care team to ensure smooth and effective transitions of care
  • Initiates CPR and other emergency measures per protocol
  • Covers other nursing roles within the department
  • Performs or delegates administrative duties
  • Assist with preauthorization work and obtaining appropriate certifications as needed, including patients' prescription authorizations.
  • Participates in quality initiatives, safety initiatives, process improvements, and research activities to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, and patient safety
  • Maintains professional growth and development in the nursing field and identified annual core competencies
  • Maintains patient records
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama Required
  • RN
    - Registered Nurse
    - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Upon Hire Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Acts as a communication link between physicians, patients, and the healthcare team, utilizing high-level customer service skills.
  • Maintains professionalism and empathy during all patient interactions.
  • Ability to handle difficult patients and/or situations with professionalism.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
