Airbus Mobile Manufacturing Site (MMS) is looking for a Director, Quality Operations, VSM to join our Production Team Leadership in Mobile, AL. This position will direct, supervise and coordinate all operational Quality lineside activities in the Single Aisle Flowlines and the completion line and in other defined areas of responsibility. It will manage, motivate and develop the Quality lineside teams. You will be responsible for ensuring the Airbus Quality Standards of the entire aircraft based on the defined inspection dossier and in accordance with applicable regulations.

The team at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facilities helps assemble the finest aircraft in the world, with production lines for the A220 and A320 Family. You will work with colleagues in electrical, structure and quality on the shop floor.

The facility is located near the Airbus Way at the Mobile Aeroplex ned in 2015 for the A320, with a second line for the A220 added in 2019. The site supports Airbus’ strategy to serve the United States and beyond.

Quality Assurance: 30%

• Implement and secure the effectiveness of the Airbus Quality Management System by the independent quality function within the Flowline in Mobile for A320, including Line 1, Line 2 and Completion Line.

• Verify and certify aircraft compliance through trained, qualified Line-side quality technicians.

• Lead QMS implementation and surveillance related to Aircraft build and regulatory compliance.

• Support continuous improvement of process maturity and efficiency with process owners.

• Uphold Airbus quality and safety standards in accordance with policies and authorities.

• Manage risk and oversight of key areas and coordinate with stakeholders (Operations, ME, engineering, etc.).

Preventive Quality: 30%

• Capture and improve quality standards for product and process, including reducing quality non-conformances for VSM topics.

• Measure and report quality KPIs to support continuous improvement; manage corrective and preventive actions.

• Represent the voice of the Customer within the VSM and drive customer satisfaction through teams.

• Engage with customer feedback to address reported quality issues and maintain customer confidence in Airbus methods.

• Ensure quality levels of all produced aircraft and pursue ongoing improvement to meet customer expectations.

• Review processes and policies for opportunities to improve.

• Ensure AOS brick implementation and improvement for problem solving and related quality activities.

Lead/Develop: 30%

• Lead and develop the Quality Lineside Teams.

• Make budget and headcount decisions aligned with operations;

• Manage the budget for A320 Quality Operations and NDT teams (Opex and Capex).

• Ensure competence levels meet time, cost and quality objectives.

• Develop and implement a Make/Buy strategy aligned with site strategy.

• Track KPI performance and reporting; share best practices across FALs.

• Collaborate across FALs to optimize flowline processes with properly staffed teams.

• Maintain smooth flowline operations with trained quality lineside and conformance management.

Other duties as assigned: 10%

• Lead quality system improvements and organizational initiatives.

• Set quality and departmental targets; participate in Airbus quality standards.

• Produce reports on trends and performance.

• Participate in Quality Leadership Team projects and directives for the FAL and Single-Aisle Quality Network.

• Contribute to the definition and practice of Quality Ways of Working in FAL-USA.

• Be prepared to travel to Europe and other sites as required.

• Act with integrity in line with the FAL-Mobile culture and safety vision.

• Collaborate with leadership to improve culture and mindset for the A320 line.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent production/quality experience.

• Minimum 10 years’ aerospace experience or equivalent.

• 5 years’ experience as a manager within quality or equivalent.

• Strong knowledge of non-conformance management and root cause methods.

• Practical problem solving skills and Kaizen understanding.

• Knowledge of production processes, aircraft design rules, and aircraft mechanical/electrical installation.
