Position: Mechanical Quality Inspector A220 (2nd Shift)

Overview

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an A220 Mechanical Quality Inspector (2nd Shift) to join our team based in Mobile, AL. The Mechanical Quality Inspector is responsible for the execution and confirmation of quality inspections as part of the production process with an emphasis on aircraft structural assemblies and components. Contribute to investigations and root cause analysis into reported quality issues to ensure appropriate containment and corrective action through multifunctional teams.

Perform quality inspections as per defined standards, final check and attestation, stop points, out of sequence work, including critical activities when not delegated. Ensure operational surveillance (people, product and process). Provide feedback and coaching to operations and support functions on quality issues and observations from operational surveillance. Actively participate in process improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all defined quality inspections up to product delivery.
  • Flag deviations on product, equipment and tools.
  • Verify that the industrial environment, facilities, hardware and tools respond to operations and safety requirements.
  • Execute technical inspections in the production process of the aircraft in the context of authorized manufacturer operation.
  • Prepare and perform visual, incoming, first article, final inspections during aircraft manufacture for compliance with design specifications, customers and certification requirements.
  • Document the technical inspections performed in the FLEXNET/NCMS/SAP production orders and relevant IT systems by inspection remarks and complete other aircraft documents; prepare first article inspection reports.
  • Support troubleshooting, Functional Test Procedures (FTPs) and participate in Quality Survey requests.
  • Compile all technical data of non-conformance to launch NCMS-based quality discrepancy sheets for professional assessment according to manufacturing engineering documentation.
  • Document all results of the technical inspector in the FLEXNET/NCMS/SAP based IT system.
  • Attain skills to perform audits of Non-Conformance Rework Orders as part of the Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Perform audits/reviews of workbooks to validate PV approval and process adherence.
  • Track and maintain components during the Non-Conformance process.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems; knowledge of drawing systems, inspection plans, and inspection coordination.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and tools used in production line; handling and use of inspection tools of length measuring techniques (mechanical, optical, electrical).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Deliverables
  • Quality inspections and attestation of work orders when not delegated.
  • Operational surveillance (process, product, people); optimization of inspection activities; fast response to quality issues; process improvement; investigations and root cause analysis; foreign object damage prevention; opening/closure of non-conformities where appropriate; support to the shop floor providing expertise in quality issues.
  • Carrying out predictive quality activities and coaching to operations.
Key Accountabilities
  • Inspect, attest and conduct surveillance; conduct PPS; prevent FOD; manage non-conformities as appropriate; be the go-to person on the shop floor for quality issues.
  • Carry out improvement, prediction and coaching as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of experience in an aviation company with emphasis on mechanical and/or structural components and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems; knowledge of drawing systems, inspection plans, and inspection coordination; knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and tools used in production line.
  • Handling and use of inspection tools for length measuring techniques (mechanical, electrical).
  • Relevant airline/aviation experience is desirable.
  • Preferred: FAA Airframe & Powerplant License; an A&P license including inspection authorization is preferred.
  • Experience in a Quality Inspector position.
