Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabama’s Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences is seeking to hire a Research Technologist I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts field-based research in coastal and estuarine environments of the northern Gulf of Mexico, including wetlands, seagrass beds, and nearshore systems.
  • Collects biological, physical, and environmental data using standard field sampling techniques (e.g., vegetation surveys, faunal sampling, water quality measurements).
  • Assists with the design, implementation, and execution of field and laboratory research protocols under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Processes, curates, and analyzes biological and environmental samples in laboratory settings using established methods.
  • Manages and organizes research data.
  • Performs basic statistical analyses and assists with data interpretation.
  • Prepares figures, summaries, and written materials for reports, grant deliverables, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Maintains field and laboratory equipment, including calibration, troubleshooting, and inventory management.
  • Coordinates field logistics, including trailering and operating small boats, scheduling sampling activities, and ensuring field safety compliance.
  • Assists with training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students in field and laboratory procedures.
  • Communicates research activities and findings to project collaborators, stakeholders, and the broader scientific community as directed.
  • Participates in outreach and extension activities that support departmental and lab objectives.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
