Job Description Summary
University of South Alabama’s Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences is hiring a Research Technologist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution, and one year of experience in a public health, medical, clinical or research laboratory. Equivalent combinations of education or experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience related to environmental science, policy or management is highly preferred.
Essential Functions- Assists or co‑leads research projects on socio‑environmental topics, including planning and executing fieldwork, analyzing data, writing reports, and engaging stakeholders.
- Coordinates interdisciplinary research and education programs and activities, including meeting planning, recruiting participants and partners, and outreach.
- Supervises and participates in collecting, recording, and preparing laboratory specimens and cultures for research experiments.
- Conducts technical and highly complex laboratory research activities involving the analysis and evaluation of research data and independently preparing reports describing research results using a variety of complex statistical measures.
- Performs technical and highly complex chemical and biological analyses requiring considerable knowledge of associated properties and characteristics of specimens used.
- Assists with the planning of experimental protocols and may adapt new techniques to experiments.
- Supervises and trains laboratory assistants and lower‑level technical positions.
- May design and direct the construction of laboratory research equipment.
- Maintains inventory records of laboratory equipment and supplies and initiates purchase orders to replenish supplies.
- Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
- Works the defined schedule and overtime as required.
- Performs related duties as required.
