Cashier Trainee - Bargain Store

STATUS: Non-exempt, Temporary
Mission Contribution: Providing funding for our mission services operation.
Function: Makes customers feel welcomed and appreciated by greeting and accurately ringing sales transactions in a friendly manner.
Essential Functions- Ensures world‑class donor and customer service, answers phone on third ring, greets customers within 10 seconds and provides friendly service and information, thanks customers for supporting our mission and invites them back.
- Acknowledges all customers and employees within a 10‑foot radius.
- Operates cash register, receives payments for purchases and records sales and other transactions.
- Balances cash drawers at the end of each shift, ensuring no cash discrepancies exceeding $5.00 after one week of training.
- Encourages customers to donate through the change round‑up program.
- Checks and cleans restrooms at least hourly.
- Collects and keeps shopping carts stacked and orderly.
- Follows production guidelines: rotates tables up to 6 times per day and a total of 100 totes per hour.
- Reaches production guidelines, as assigned.
- Transfers totes from the back room to the sales floor when working in the warehouse.
- Rotates totes and tables from sales floor and returns them to the proper place in the warehouse.
- Ensures a clean and empty work station at the end of each shift.
- Pulls and rotates store merchandise as instructed by supervisor or manager.
- Keeps aisles free from debris in the production and sales floor area.
- Maintains the image of the sales floor and assists in store housekeeping, including daily cleaning of the floor, fixtures, and restrooms, as assigned.
- Maintains adherence to all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Interacts cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Counts money quickly and accurately.
- Markets Goodwill and explains the mission to the general public.
- Takes initiative and works well with little supervision.
- Maintains effective working relationships with employees.
- Possesses excellent communication skills.
- Works a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Functions in a hectic work environment with occasional high stress.
- Is at least 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- Prior work experience in the service industry preferred.
- Engages in frequent bending, stretching, stooping, prolonged standing, walking, and twisting.
- Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs. frequently and 75 lbs. with assistance occasionally.
- Puts equipment on wheels weighing 50–150 lbs. to push.
- Uses fingers, hands, and wrists as needed.
Frequent physical exertion; exposure to unfit donated goods.
