Advertising Sales, Business Development, Account Manager
Overview
Our client, an established Midwest media organization, is seeking a Director of Sales to lead revenue generation across its Madison market portfolio. This role oversees a team of account executives selling integrated advertising solutions across print, digital, and event channels.
The ideal candidate is a proven sales leader with a strong track record of building high‑performing teams, driving revenue growth, and developing strategic client relationships in a multi‑platform media environment.
Core Duties- Lead and develop a team of approximately 8 to 10 advertising sales professionals
- Develop and execute annual sales strategies and revenue targets
- Build and maintain relationships with key advertisers and agency partners
- Design integrated advertising packages spanning print, digital, and events
- Coach team members on consultative selling and account development
- Partner with editorial and event teams on sponsorship and branded content opportunities
- Track pipeline performance and forecast revenue accurately
- Represent the organization at industry and community events
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field
- 7+ years of advertising or media sales experience, including 3+ years in management
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets
- Strong understanding of digital advertising, programmatic, and audience‑based selling
- Excellent coaching, communication, and negotiation skills
- Experience in business journalism, B2B publishing, or local media
- Established relationships in the Madison or Wisconsin business community
- Experience launching new products or revenue streams
- CRM expertise (Salesforce, Hub Spot)
- Base salary ($95k to $125k) plus uncapped commission and incentives
