Surge Support Technical Support Specialists
This position is on an as-needed surge support basis and not a full-time role
Summary:
This position is intended to fill in as a surge capacity force in support of the Department of Homeland Security’s Mobile Detection Deployment Program (MDDP). These surge assets are designed to supplement Federal and State partners' and first responders' existing CBRN detection and reporting capabilities in support of national and other special security events. The program is growing into the full spectrum of CBRN detection;
however the emphasis of this support is focused on radiological/nuclear detection operations and instrumentation. The nature of the surge force will be voluntary and managed on a rotational basis for scheduled events and short notice requested to deploy.
When activated for surge support, this position supports mission-critical Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) operations. Personnel must be capable of supporting surge deployments, intelligence-driven operations, National Special Security Events (NSSE), and steady-state detection missions. Travel, extended hours, 24/7 shift work, weekends, holidays, and recall during contingency operations may be required.
This task-based, part-time position deploys in support of MDDP operations, at a minimum, twice per fiscal year to support operational duties and activities by maintaining equipment, tactics, techniques and providing operational support at the bequest of the government.
Work for this position will be located at one of the following sites:
- Fort Dix, NJ
- Herndon, VA
- Indianapolis, IN
- Portland, OR
Job Description
- Conduct and support CBRN detection operations in conjunction with program stakeholders in post-deployment communications.
- Conduct CBRN detection operations
- Manage and maintain file system for regional documentation to include record keeping, following file standards and protocols, and maintaining both electronic and paper files.
- Responsible for maintaining their equipment, tactics, techniques, and procedure standards by completing all training, including refresher training, in accordance with MDDP policies.
- Supports fleet management by documenting, tracking, submitting, and filing all necessary fleet vehicle information in accordance with MDDP, CWMD, and DHS policies.
- Adheres to professional standards and codes of conduct set forth by MDDP, CWMD, and DHS including dress code, all forms of communication standards, social media regulations, and other policies as required.
- Presents clear, concise, and accurate information on the Mobile Detection Deployment Program and its capabilities to a variety of stakeholders and group sizes.
- Supports training on and answers questions on policies, procedures, protocols, and equipment of the program to a variety of stakeholders and group sizes unless otherwise directed
- Submit Travel Approvals within 48hrs after members receive an Operations Order (OPORD) unless otherwise directed.
- Provides support for Situation Reports (SITREPs).
- Provides input for After Action Reports (AARs).
- Supports operational duties and activities based on request from FPM, and COR to support MDDP operational aspects as requested on a temporary duty status.
- Responsible for maintaining equipment, tactics, techniques, and procedure standards.
- Adheres to professional standards and codes of conduct set forth by MDDP, CWMD, and DHS including dress code, all forms of communication standards, social media regulations, and other policies as required.
- Conduct technical chemical, radiological and nuclear reach back on all requested deployments to demonstrate proficiency.
