- Completion of at least the eighth grade; high school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience operating Equipment Operator III level equipment
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) for the type of equipment operated
- Ability to demonstrate skill in heavy equipment operation
- Must meet established medical and physical standards for the class of work
- Experience with specific equipment such as track-mounted lift cranes, pavement milling machines, or hydraulic dredges
- Additional certifications related to heavy equipment operation
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in public works
